Honda Silver Wing Oil/Filter Change Instructions

Download Time and Ease: Easy­ 30 minutes Tools/Supplies: Wrench, oil, oil pan, rags, funnel, maybe an O­ring Step 1 ­Park the scooter on its center stand on a firm, level surface. If the engine is cold, start it and let it idle for 3­5 minutes. Turn the engine off. Wait 2­3 minutes for the oil to settle. Step 2 ­Place a drain pan under the oil plug (below right side fairing) . To drain the oil, remove the oil filler cap/dipstick, oil plug , spring, and oil strainer screen. Step 3 ­Remove the oil filter with a filter wrench and let the remaining oil drain out. Discard the oil filter in an approved manner. Step 4 ­Install the oil filler cap/dipstick securely. Pour the drained oil into a suitable container and dispose of it in an approved manner. Step 5 ­Apply a thin coat of engine oil to the rubber seal of a new oil filter. Install the new oil filter and tighten it by hand. Using an oil filter wrench attachment and a torque wrench, tighten the new oil filter to the specified torque: 20 lb­ft (26 N­m, 2.7 kgf­m) . Step 6 ­Clean the oil filter screen. Check the oil filter screen, sealing rubber, and oil plug O­ring are in good condition. Install the oil filter screen, spring, and oil plug. Tighten the oil plug to the specified torque: 11 lb­ft (15 N­m, 1.5 kgf­m) . Step 7 ­Fill the crankcase with the recommended oil (Pro Honda GN4 or HP4 4­stroke oil) , approximately: 2.3 US qt (2.2 L, 1.9 Imp qt) . Install the oil filler cap/dipstick securely. Step 8 ­Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Stop the engine. Wait several minutes. Step 9 ­With the scooter on its center stand, check that the oil level is at the upper level mark on the dipstick. Check that there are no oil leaks.
